St. Mark’s Episcopal Day School Immunization Policy
1. St. Mark’s Day School’s Immunization Policy was crafted, first, and foremost, to ensure the safety of our students, as well as, demonstrate special sensitivity to the health and safety needs of the many pregnant women, infants, and young children who are in contact, and in part of, the St. Mark’s community.
2. Enrolled children, with few exceptions, (see below), must meet the current Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements set by the Department of State Health Services. Current requirements can be found on the Department of State Health Services website and are posted each year on the bulletin board in the school office.
3. A complete immunization record from a physician’s office with the physician’s signature must be on file by the beginning of the school year and updated, as applicable, throughout the year.
4. A child will not be allowed to attend class if his/her immunization record is incomplete. 5. Exclusions and delays from immunization compliance are not allowed for reasons of conscience. Exceptions
EXCLUSIONS
1. Exclusions from immunizations may occur due to medical contraindication. Therefore, it is possible that a non-immunized child may attend St. Mark’s. Medical contraindication to vaccination must be documented by the child’s physician, in writing, and submitted to St. Mark’s at the beginning of the school year to be kept on file as part of the child’s health record.1
2. Under limited medical circumstances, St. Mark’s will accept a vaccination schedule that is delayed from the Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements. Therefore, it is possible that a child, who is not fully immunized, may attend St. Mark’s. For a delayed schedule to comply with St. Mark’s policy, we must have documentation from the child’s physician in our files stating their approval of the delayed schedule. The documentation must also include pre-planned appointment dates on which the delayed vaccine(s) will be administered, with the goal of “catching up” to meet the Texas Minimum Vaccine Requirements. Documentation of the administration of the delayed vaccines will be due to St. Mark’s immediately following the appointment date.
