Director of Business and Operations

Position Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Director of Business and Operations to join our leadership team. This individual will oversee the School’s financial, operational, and administrative functions, ensuring long-term sustainability and daily operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem-solver with strong financial acumen, organizational leadership experience, and a heart for supporting educational communities.

 

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Risk Oversight

  • Manage financial operations including bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable, receivables, tuition and reporting.

  • Develop and monitor the annual budget in partnership with the Head of School and finance committee.

  • Provide regular financial forecasts and strategic analysis to support decision-making.

  • Oversee risk management practices and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Negotiate and manage contracts for maintenance, IT, and supplies.

  • Monitor vendor performance and identify cost-saving opportunities.

  • Ensure contractual compliance and operational efficiency.

Human Resources & Personnel Support

  • Oversee HR functions including benefits administration, PTO tracking, and compliance with labor laws.

  • Coordinate substitute teacher coverage and support faculty/staff with HR inquiries.

  • Assist with payroll and maintain personnel records.

School Operations & Administrative Management

  • Maintain and update student records including enrollment, medical documentation, and transfers.

  • Respond to parent and staff inquiries regarding registration and records.

  • Collaborate with Head of School to ensure regulatory compliance in student data and reporting.

  • Support procurement and inventory of instructional materials and supplies.

  • Oversee facility operations, creating a safe and welcoming environment.

Technology Oversight

  • Manage distribution and maintenance of school technology (laptops, tablets, printers, etc.).

  • Coordinate IT support and ensure strong infrastructure.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a key liaison among faculty, staff, and school leadership.

  • Partner with the Head of School on strategic planning and operational improvements.

  • Collaborate with the Communications Director to ensure clear, timely communication with all stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Education Administration, or related field (preferred)

  • 3–5+ years of experience in business operations or financial management, preferably in a school or nonprofit setting.

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, and basic understanding of student information systems.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
